A prominent trend for improving fuel efficiency in automotive applications has been the movement of traditional belt drive actuators to become electronically controlled. One of the earliest adopters of this technique was in powertrain cooling applications. For instance, in years past engine cooling fans were driven off of a “fan belt” which was in constant use while the engine was running. This particular application area continues to move forward with greater technical advances each year in terms of improving efficiency, ambient noise, and smaller footprints. Allegro has viewed this growth area as a significant application for product development. We bring significant expertise to the controlling of the electric motors used in engine cooling and battery cooling applications. Products such as brush and brushless motor controller ICs as well as power management ICs from Allegro are all designed and qualified for the demanding under-hood environment that this application area requires.
